Fire Inspections: The Frankfort Fire Department is a deputized agency of the State Fire Marshal and conducts inspections by the authority given under the Kentucky Standards of Safety. All facilities within the City (excluding one and two family dwellings.) are inspected for the minimum requirements necessary to establish a reasonable level of life safety and property protection from the hazards of fire. Not all buildings with in the city are inspected by the Fire Department. The State Fire Marshal has jurisdiction over state-owned property, health care facilities and other state licensed facilities. Plan Reviews: Construction plans are reviewed for compliance with the Fire Protection Requirements in chapter 93.30 of the Frankfort Municipal Code that covers access roadways, fire lanes, fire protection equipment, water supply, fire hydrants and other aspects. Permits: Open Burning and Blasting Permits are issued to regulate safety measures in order to protect public safety. These permits require that a fee be paid and are subject to on site inspections prior to issuance. Burning Open burning is illegal in the City of Frankfort without a permit and one can only be issued for clearing land for construction or agricultural purposes. Only natural growing materials can be burned, the burning of contaminated, hazardous, petroleum-based and synthetic materials is prohibited. A fee of $200.00 is required and paid to the city treasurer. Individual must be in constant attendance during the burn and a bulldozer, backhoe or other approved equipment shall be provide. The fee for blasting permits or permit renewal is $200.00 and paid to the city treasurer. A Kentucky Blasters license is required and permits issued on public property will take 7 days for approval.
