Why can't Frankfort ambulances provide all the out of county transportation? |

At times multiple local incidents commit our public safety staff, and as mentioned earlier all EMS personnel double as firefighters. Some patient destinations are beyond a reasonable distance from Frankfort for the same apparent reasons. Our personnel are required to reside within an hour of response in order to work here. The same applies on a daily basis; we must be able to have our personnel readily available to respond to other emergency incidents such as rescue, fire, or hazmat within the city and county. Frankfort Fire & EMS responds to approximately 7,000 medical calls and over 1,000 fire calls each year Frankfort Fire & EMS does staff an ambulance Monday through Friday during normal business hours with a primary focus on non-emergency patient transports. These personnel are not figured into our public safety daily minimum staffing and can more readily leave the county. These transports can be scheduled by calling the non-emergency dispatch number 875-8550. They are utilized for emergency transports as needed. In addition to the non-emergency scheduled transports, Frankfort Ambulance will transport patients in need of emergency care to out of town hospitals if requested by Frankfort Regional Medical Center doctors.
