Frankfort's Urban Forestry Program has received a grant to update the Urban Forestry Management Plan and the Urban Forestry Advisory Board Ordinance. The process begins in November 2008 and will conclude by May 31, 2009. The documents will be discussed at the Urban Forestry Advisory Board meetings and at special public meetings. Public input is encouraged. The Urban Forestry Advisory Board meets periodically on the fourth Monday of the month at 5:30pm, generally at the Paul Sawyier Public Library. Advisory Board and special meetings will be announced in the State Journal. The Urban Forestry Management Plan and the Urban Forestry Advisory Board Ordinance can be viewed on this web site.
Reforest Frankfort / Arbor Day Event
Date and time: April 4, 2009 9:00 to 2:00
Place: On Old Lawrenceburg Road at the boat ramp near the East-west Connector and the Julian Carroll Bridge.
Reforest Frankfort 2009 will involve citizen volunteers planting roughly 2000 trees on public property along the Kentucky River. The plantings will serve to slow erosion and flooding, and shade and protect streams and stream banks. Reforest Frankfort will be combined with Frankfort’s annual Arbor Day event and include entertainment, activities, displays, Arbor Day Poster Contest winners and the City’s annual Arbor Day Tree Give-away. Tree planters will be given Reforest Frankfort T-shirts. The First Lady has been invited to participate.
To volunteer to plant tree seedlings or to help out with the event, contact Andrew Cammack at

Wear long sleeves and sturdy boots and be prepared for rain. Please bring a shovel with you. Crew leaders will be there to help you with the planting. See you on April 4!
The Reforest Frankfort team invites you help sponsor or otherwise participate in Frankfort’s First Annual Reforest Frankfort event. Sponsors will be recognized at the event, in the media and on the Reforest Frankfort T-shirts. A business, group, individual or corporation can become a sponsor by contributing $250 or more to the Reforest Frankfort event. Supporters will be recognized at the event and in the media for a contribution of $100 or more. Other ways to participate include joining a planning committee, helping plant trees or helping with other tasks.
