Frankfort and Franklin County are served by several public safety agencies, including City, County, State, and other public and private organizations. If you have an emergency, call 911 and the appropriate agency will be dispatched. 911 calls for Frankfort and Franklin County are dispatched centrally by the Frankfort/Franklin County 911 Dispatch. The E911 Dispatch Center is a non-profit, publicly owned, PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) that serves the citizens and visitors of Frankfort and Franklin County. The Center answers calls for service and dispatch for the Frankfort Police, Frankfort Fire/EMS, Franklin County Fire, and Franklin County Sheriff's Department.

The Frankfort Police Department provides public protection and law enforcement within the City limits.

Frankfort Fire and Emergency Medical Services provides fire protection and prevention service to citizens in a 22-square-mile area of the Capital City. The department also provides Emergency Medical Service (EMS) to Frankfort and Franklin County.

The City of Frankfort Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security was originally known as Civil Defense and later was updated to Disaster and Emergency Services (DES). This Office provides emergency management planning, preparedness, and information for citizens of Frankfort/Franklin County. For more information visit http://www.frankfortema.org/ or call: (502) 352-2064.

The Franklin County Sheriff is responsible for law enforcement outside the City of Frankfort. For emergencies, dial 911; for non-emergencies, dial (502) 875-8740. The Sheriff is also responsible for collecting all state, county, school, and district taxes that are derived from assessed real, tangible, and intangible properties.

The Kentucky State Police is Kentucky's statewide law enforcement agency. It was created in 1948, replacing its predecessor, the 12-year-old Kentucky Highway Patrol.
