CPAT Challenge Question & Answer:

Question:  "I currently have a valid CPAT card that is current and does not expire until April 2020.  Do I still need to attend CPAT orientation or can I challenge the CPAT testing?"

Answer:  I have just spoken with Captain Rick Larkin with the Kentucky Fire Commission CPAT program.  He has advised that anyone who would like to challenge the CPAT card should contact him and let him know that you plan to challenge the CPAT.

I reiterate the following applies for completing the CPAT challenge:

  1. You must contact CPAT Director Rick Larkin at (859) 753-7282 or rick.larkins@kctcs.edu prior to challenging the test.  Please let him know that you are challenging testing for Frankfort Fire & EMS.
  2. You CANNOT take the CPAT challenge during any of the CPAT orientation sessions. Challenges can only be during practice tests and final tests.
  3. To take the CPAT challenge, you must declare the challenge at the beginning of the sessions.
  4. You must also have a valid and current CPAT card. If you have an expired card, then you are required to attend an orientation session.  You WILL NOT be permitted to challenge the test with an invalid and/or expired CPAT card.

Additionally, if you take the CPAT challenge and fail the challenge, then there is no harm. You will preserve your current CPAT card until the expiration date of that card. If you are doing the CPAT challenge and you pass the challenge, then you will be issued a new CPAT Card with a new expiration date. The CPAT challenge consists of you passing the entire physical agility of CPAT testing.
